Hi everyone. In some cases you want to add stock video footage to your project, but sometimes it’s hard to find a clip with the exact color as your project needs.
Fortunately and especially for abstract scenes without people you can find grayscale footage and colorize it, adding tint color to the entire clip especially when it comes to abstract one-color shots and backgrounds.
Our free grayscale to color LUTs is a good point to start. Just take any black and white clip and apply these luts to it. Then precisely adjust color as your sequence needs using hue and saturation effects.
Before and after:
Range of colors for mid-grey footage (Middle of the waveform):
Range of colors for black-background footage with white elements:
Consider that tinting luts doesn’t work on white and black areas, so if you got footage with for example white background just add a gray ramp to it before applying luts, just like this:
Certainly you can simply use color wheels to colorize black and white, but in case for some reason you are unable to do this you can use these luts. For example if you’re gonna to colorize clips in a batch.
